Noble Shaykh, some people pray taraweeh [with the Imam], but before the Shaf' and witr, they exit and leave the Shaf' and Witr [prayers].

He ﷺ if he performed witr as 3 used to recite Surah al-‘Ala in the first unit of prayer (after al-Fatihah) because this soorah consists of mention of the worldly life and the Hereafter. In the second rak’ah he recites Surah Al-Kaafiroon because it consists of Tawheed of Worship, Tawheed al-Uloohiyah, and in the third he recites Surah Al-Ikhlaas.

The Messenger of Allah – sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam – when he would give salaams after the witr prayer would say :
سُبحانَ الملِكِ القدُّوس
Three times and the third time he would raise his voice. (1)
Classified as Saheeh by Imam Al-Albaani in Saheeh an-Nisaa’i Hadeeth number 1732
(1) And in Hadeeth 1733 – also classified as Saheeh by Imam Al-Albaani – he would elongate the third time.
