Heedless of Allaah and his desires are his god – Shaykh Uthaymeen and Shaykh As-Sa’di

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh Uthaymeen warned:

If you see your time and life pass by, and you have not produced anything worthwhile or beneficial, and you do not find any blessing in your time then be wary that the statement of Allah has overcome you:

“And obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.” Al-Kahf: 28 [Ref 1]

And in this ayah is an indication of the importance of the heart’s presence when performing dhikr of Allaah. And that the person who remembers Allah with [only] his tongue and not his heart, [then] the barakah [blessing] is removed from his actions and his time to the extent that his deeds become lost.[Ref 2]

Imam As-Sa’di -rahimahullah- said about this verse in his tafseer. [The one who is] heedless of Allaah then his recompense is that Allah has made him heedless of His remembrance. “Who follows his own lusts” – whatever his soul desires he does and he strives in its attainment, even if it was to his destruction and loss. [If that occurs] then verily he has taken his desires as his god, as Allah the Most High said:

“Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?” Soorah Al-Jathiya:23[Ref 3]

Make the Qur’aan the focal point of your life… Your hereafter depends on it.

A small reminder to all of us from Al-Markaz as Salafi…. and a reminder benefits the believers.

Allah has blessed us with the opportunity in our communities to have people from different nationalities who have reached a good level of proficiency at reciting the Qur’aan. This is a great blessing from Allah.

The evidences regarding the importance of the Qur’aan and it’s virtues are numerous! We won’t go into them in detail but here is a brief summary:

Allaah (The Most High) said: “Indeed We have made the Qur’aan easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)” 54:17

When we look in the tafseer we find Imaam as-Saa’di saying that Allaah has made the wording of this noble Qur’aan easy- simple to memorize and accomplish, and He (The Most High) made its meanings easy to understand- because it is the best in its wording and most truthful in meaning. So whoever devotes himself to it, Allaah will make his seeking after it very easy and simple…(see tayseer al-kareem ar-rahmaan)

And we all know very well that the Qur’aan is a complete and perfect guidance. It is a “shifa” (cure) for all that in the souls and a “rahma” (mercy) from Allah. It is the true light of guidance and a “furqaan” (criterion) between truth and falsehood. It is a complete source of solace for the hearts and souls in times of distress and a means of strength in times of weakness. It is full of reward – with each letter being worth ten rewards.

Through it you can cure everything including scorpion bites, sadness and depression, jinn possession and magic… And it will cure these with a complete cure, leaving no trace of the ailment by the Will of Allaah.

We know that it will come as an intercessor on the day of resurrection for the one who recited and acted upon it.

So who from among us doesn’t want this?! All from just reading the words of Allah and acting upon it. One of the simplest things a person can do…

And there is no doubt reading is not difficult! We read hundreds of texts everyday, newspapers to articles, yet we nowhere near reach the level of being regular readers of the Qur’aan! It is reported from the Salaf that they would finish the Qur’aan at least once a month; with some once a week and others every few days even! As Salafis we should be following this example. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen greatly emphasised this affair particularly to the Salafis because he felt that some of us do not give enough time to the Qur’aan.

Indeed it is a deficiency if we are not striving to improve our recitation and understanding of the Qur’aan even though we have qualifications, degrees or are proficient in other aspects of the dunyah sciences… a deficiency we must try to overcome.

So let us strengthen our bond with the Qur’aan!

Let those of us who cannot recite properly go to the teachers available in our Salafi Centres and Masaajid – Manchester, Bolton or elsewhere. They are sat waiting to teach us. Let us not be distracted by other small affairs… All of which pale in comparison to the Word of Allah.

And when the Qur’aan classes are scheduled then make a note of them in your diaries and phones and do not replace them with other things such as football, cricket and other activities… Yes these things maybe permissible but they are highly trivial in comparison to the Qur’aan and attending lessons in the Qur’aan. So it is better to arrange those things around the Qur’aan lessons.

And when attending the lessons then make those lessons the only thing that you are thinking about. Do not speak about trivial matters… Switch off your phones and spend the full hour or two in just reading the Qur’aan and learning it. Do not give shaytaan the chance to pull you away from the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah.

… Make the Qur’aan the focal point of your life… Your hereafter depends on it.

What will soften the hearts – Shaykh Fawzaan

Question:
If a person has with him hardness in his heart, then what are affairs that will soften the heart?

Answer:

There is nothing better or more necessary (for softening the heart) than the Noble Qur’aan. It is what will soften the hearts. Allah -the Exalted and Sublime – said:

‘’Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.’’ [Surah al-Rad Verse 28]

So the Qur’aan is what will soften the hearts, which if Allah were to reveal it on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah;

‘’Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah.’’ [Suratul Hashr Verse 21]

Likewise sitting with the righteous and listening to The Qur’aan, (listening) to admonitions and reminders–this is what will soften the hearts.

Shaikh Uthaymeen said: ”Why would they not be from the most ignorant of people……!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

”And when it is said to them (hypocrites): “Believe as the people (followers of Muhammad Peace be upon him, Al-Ansar and Al-Muhajirun) have believed,” they say: “Shall we believe as the fools have believed?” Verily, they are the fools, but they know not.” [Soorah Al-Baqarah Ayah: 13]

Shaikh Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said:

From the benefits of the ayah is an indication to the ignorance of the hypocrites, because Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) negated knowledge from them due to His saying:”But they know not.” The reality is that they are from the most ignorant of people. Why would they not be from the most ignorant of people!–for indeed their path is deception, manipulation and misguidance. These hypocrites are from the most ignorant of people because they do not know the reality about themselves and that they are foolish (people).

Those Who Perform Righteous Deeds, Whilst Being Fearful….

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa] said: I ask the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) about this Ayah:

[وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ  – And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear] [23:60]; are they those who drink alcohol and commit theft?” He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ”O daughter of Siddeeq! Rather they are those who observe fasting, perform prayer and give charity, whilst fearing that their deeds will not be accepted from them.” [Reported by Imaam Tirmidee Number: 3175]

Hasan Al-Basri [rahimahullaah] said: ”The believer combines between perfection (in worship) and fear (that his deeds will be rejected); and the hypocrite combines between evil (deeds) and feeling safe from [Allaah’s punishment]” [Madaarij As-Saalikeen: 1/512]

Reflecting On The Qur’aan–Ibn Qudaamah (rahimahullaah)

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

When a Bedouin heard the saying of Allaah [فَوَرَبِّ السَّمَاء وَالأرْضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَا أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ] ”Then, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is the truth (i.e. what has been promised to you), just as it is the truth that you can speak”[Dhaariyaat Ayah: 23]; so he (i.e. the bedouin) said: ”Who angered the Mighty and Majesty so that He made an oath?!” [At-Tawwaabeen: 279]

[2] Fataawaa related to Women

Question:

How can a person become strong in Eemaan–fulfilling the commandments of Allaah and fearful of His Punishment?

Answer:

This can be (attained) by way of recitation of Allaah’s Book–studying it, pondering upon its meanings and rulings.  And by studying the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) — having knowledge and awareness of the affairs of the Islamic legislation by way of it, acting upon what that necessitates and adhering to it in creed, actions and speech.  And to be extremely mindful of (Allaah’s absolute knowledge of whatever you do and wherever you may be), to (nurture) the heart upon awareness of His Greatness, remembrance of the hereafter and what is found in it of recompense, reward, punishment and the severity of its affairs.  And to keep the company of those whom (you) know amongst the righteous people and keep away from the people of evil and corruption.

[1]Advice Number 22: Prohibition against 8 Sicknesses in Societies–Sh Ali Bin Sh Zaid

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

The First Sickness: Mockery

It is to belittle the people, making fun of them and encroaching upon their rights. Indeed Allaah has warned (us) against committing this crime that occurs from those who are conceited with themselves and look down on others.  Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ

”O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former.” [Al-Hujuraat: Ayah: 11]

[This ayah] is imposed as prohibition against men and then to women; because this vile action occurs from all (i.e. men and women).  The mocker does not stop at belittling the creation; rather he goes further in rejecting the truth, as it has been established in the authentic hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) that he said:

‘’Pride is to reject the truth and looking down on the people.’’ [Reported by Muslim: Kitaab Al-Eemaan; Chapter: Prohibition against pride and its clarification: 1/91, page: 93]
