Principles in Honouring Guests – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Principles in Honouring Guests

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidahullah) was asked:

Is it permissible for a person to serve his guest khamr (intoxicants) alongside his food, if the guest requests it?

He replied: The principle regarding the guest, is that he is honoured with that which Allah (The Glorified, The Most High) has allowed.

Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa salam) said:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the last day, then let him honour his guest.” (1)

Honouring the guest is a characteristic from the the characteristics of the believer, however it is not honouring him to present him with something which is haram and impermissible. Rather present and serve him with that which Allah (The Glorified, The Most High) has allowed, as for the prohibited, then if he serves it to his guest, indeed he has aided him upon disobedience, and Allah (The Majestic, The Most High):

‎وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment. (Soorah Al-Maa’ida: 2)

Hungry People Hoping for a Mouthful of Food & Scrap of Bread, Yet Some People Waste Food – a brief Admonition by Shaikh Fawzaan

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) said:

Reducing spending and not being extravagant and wasteful is an obligation during marriage ceremonies and other than it. These squanderers who waste meat and food and dispose of it in waste bins should be reminded that there are hungry people hoping for a mouth full of (food) and a scrap of bread. (They should be reminded) to fear Allaah and to fear Him in their gatherings, and that they do not become the cause of Allaah’s blessings being stop.

Allowance of Eating During Day in Ramadhaan When Breaking Fast Due to A Legislated Reason – Shaykh Uthaymeen

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Question: Is it allowed for the one who breaks his fast during the day in Ramadhan due to a legislated sharia excuse to (continue) eating and drinking for the rest of the day?

Shaykh Uthaymeen  answered:

It is permissible for him to eat and drink because he broke his fast due to a legislated sharia reason. If he breaks the fast due to a legislated sharia reason, then the prohibition from eating on that day ceases in his case, and it becomes permissible for him to eat and drink; as opposed to the man who breaks his fast without a (legislated shiria reason), for indeed we make it binding on him to refrain (from food and drink), even if it is binding on him to make it up (as well). Therefore, it is obligatory to pay attention to the difference between these two affairs.
