Raising Hands for Dua after the Adhan – Permanent Committee

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

It is legistlated after the adhaan and after responding to the muadhin and (then after) sending peace and blessings upon the Prophet -May Allah’s Peace be Upon Him- that he says what is reported from the Prophet

“اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ، وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ، آتِ مُحَمَّداً الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَاماً مَحْمُوداً الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ،¹

Because that is affirmed from the prophet -May Allah’s Peace be Upon Him- from the hadith of Jaabir bin Abdillah al-Ansaari-May Allah be pleased with him- in Sahih Al-Bukhaari, and that is without raising of the hands, because that is not reported in this place, so it is considered an innovation to do it.

[b] Our Salaf: Ibraaheem Ibn Yazeed–from his supplications

And from his (rahimahullaah) supplications were:

”O Allaah! Safeguard me through your Book and the Sunnah of your Prophet; (Safeguard me) from opposing the truth and from following desires (due to an absence) of guidance from you; (Safeguard me) from the paths of misguidance, from the affairs that resemble truth but are falsehood in reality, from deviation, deception and blameworthy argumentation (in religion).”

The Human being Invokes Against Himself Out of Anger – By Imaam Ibnul Qayyim

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَلَوْ يُعَجِّلُ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ الشَّرَّ اسْتِعْجَالَهُم بِالْخَيْرِ لَقُضِيَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَجَلُهُمْ

”And were Allah to hasten for mankind the evil (they invoke) as He hastens for them the good (they invoke) then they would have been ruined.”

[Soorah Yoonus: Ayah: 11]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

The salaf (pious predecessors) said: It is the supplication of the person against himself, his children and family whilst in a state of anger. Had Allaah (The Most High) answered his invocation, it would have destroyed him and the one he supplicated against; but He (Allaah) does not answer his supplication due to His knowledge that the suppliant does not intend it.

Shaykh Fawzaan: Is this Supplication sufficient?

Shaykh Fawzaan was asked:

Is this supplication considered comprehensive and sufficient over the other supplications:

‘O Allah indeed I ask you for the good which your prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam and your righteous slaves asked you for’

Answer:

This is a tremendous supplication, however it does not remove the need for the remaining supplications; rather the people supplicate with all the supplications they are aware of, increasing (in) good and he doesn’t restrict himself upon any one (supplication).

The prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam did not restrict himself upon one (supplication) rather he used to supplicate with this one sometimes, this one sometimes and this one sometimes (i.e he would vary the supplications he would make).

What is ruling on delaying following the Imaam to increase in Dua? Shaykh Fawzaan

Question:

What is the ruling on delaying (following) the Imaam whether it was during Rukoo (bowing) or whilst in the state of prostration or other than that for the purpose of supplicating , and what is the proof?

Answer:

The Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The Imaam is to be followed”1 so there is no delaying (of following) the Imaam and there is no preceding him. The Imaam is followed and this is that which the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) commanded. ” Bow when he bows, prostrate when he prostrates, and when he says ‘Sami Allahu liman-hamidah (Allah heard those who sent praises to Him) say then ‘Rabbana wa lakal-hamd’ (O our Lord! All the praises are for you)”2

So the Imaam is to be followed; this is that which the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) commanded with.
