Question: Eminent Shaykh, some people stay up late during the nights of Ramadhaan, and sleep during the day, they might even miss the prayers during the days of Ramadhaan. Do you have any advice for these people?

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] informed us that indeed the sign of Laylat al-Qadr is that the sun rises on the following morning without rays. The noble companion Ubay Bin Ka’b [may Allaah be pleased with him] closely observed this for many years and saw the sun rising without rays in the morning after the 27th night, and he used to swear by Allaah that Laylatul Qadr is on the 27th night due to this sign. But what is correct is that it can definitely be other than the 27th night. It can definitely be the 27th night for a number of years, the 21st night in other years or on the 23rd, 25th or other than them (i.e. 29th night). [فللاحتياط والحزم الاجتهاد في الليالي كلها – Therefore, one should pay close attention, being observant, diligent, determined and striving in all the nights]. The Questioner says – oh noble scholar – what is the ruling on using bukhoor during the days of Ramadhān?
“Using bukhoor during the days of Ramadhān, there is no problem with it. Just as there is no problem in using it in other than it. However…”
From that which Allah has prescribed in this blessed month (Ramadan) the filling of the Masaajid for the Taraweeh Prayer in congregation. The Taraweeh Prayer is prayed in congregation in the Masaajid, this is the Sunnah (of the Prophet ﷺ ) and if he prayed it in his house then there is no harm but the Taraweeh prayer in the Maasajid is the best and complete, for it is the month of filling the Masaajid.

وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ
And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad sallallāhu alaihi wa salam) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. (Al-Baqarah: 186)
Supplicating to Allāh whilst fasting is one of the times where supplications are most likely to be answered. This is because Allāh mentioned this verse within the verses of fasting. Especially since He spoke about it at the end of His speech regarding the verses of fasting.
Some of the scholars said, There is another benefit extracted from this verse: it is befitting to supplicate at the end of the fasting day, (i.e. before Maghrib, at point of opening fast).
This is one of the best times to supplicate, as the fasting person is weak and the weaker a person is, the more softer and open his heart is. This person is more likely to turn repentantly to Allāh and to lower and submit himself to Allāh.

Fasting makes it easier to perform acts of worship, this is evident from seeing fasting people compete and rush to perform good deeds. When not fasting, maybe they would have been lazy or found the worship difficult for them.
