The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Hasten in doing good deeds (before you are overtaken) because there will be trials (temptation) which would be like a part of the night. (During it) a man would be a Muslim in the morning and an unbeliever in the evening or he would be a believer in the evening and an unbeliever in the morning, and would sell his religion for worldly goods”. [1]
Al-Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:
He wakes up in the morning as a believer with Iman but by the end of the evening he deviates and becomes a disbeliever, or a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning. What is the cause? “Sells his religion for some worldly goods”. This is proof that the materialistic world is one of the temptations, – the adornments of the worldly life and the things such as food, drinks, transportation, mansions, castles, status, etc -thus a person abandons their religion of Islam. A person may be so consumed by their desires and love for material possessions that they abandon their religion of Islam. Allah has warned us about the allure and deception of the worldly life. Instead, we should only take what is necessary from this life to fulfill our obligations to Allah. As for just going along and forgetting about the Hereafter, this itself is destruction. [2]
Allaamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, said:
Yes, a man may embrace truth and then vanish from sight, only to reappear as a disbeliever or a misguided innovator in religious matters! This is nothing short of humiliation! He used to claim that he is upon goodness, a possessor of knowledge, and adherence to the truth, but then he succumbs to disbelief – either major or minor. This is a disgrace, and we seek Allah’s protection. How many individuals have been brought low and exposed through a trial (temptation)?! You become aware of them, their deceitful assertions are laid bare, and their true reality is revealed to you. [3]
The Shaikh also said: A believer always fears that his situation will change. It has been reported from Aa’isha and Anas, may Allah pleased with them, that the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, often (supplicated): [يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ – O turner of the hearts (Allaah)! Keep my heart firm upon your religion]. [Aa’isha or Anas] asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! We believe in you and what has been revealed to you, so do you fear for us?” He said, “Yes, indeed the hearts are between two fingers among the fingers of Allah and He turns them how He pleases”. By Allah! This is (true) understanding, that a person does not feel safe about himself, for indeed Satan flows through the human being like blood. Therefore, a person should guard his heart, intellect, and deeds ardently more than he guards his wealth and honour. Whoever is given authority to look after his affairs is obligated to guard his heart before everything else.
Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower]. [ Surah Aal Imraan’ Aayah 8] [4]
We ask Allah:
O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). [5]
O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return, and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [6]

It is well-known that Jews in Europe underwent a period of isolation within what is referred to as the “ghetto.” [1] This situation highlights a characteristic inherent to them: a tendency towards introversion and self-isolation, stemming from their belief that such behaviour would help preserve their religion and the rituals they practiced. Consequently, their interaction with surrounding communities was limited, and the Church remained largely distant from them, hoping that the Jews would eventually convert to Christianity. Part of this hope was realised, as some Jews did embrace Christianity, prompting the Church to celebrate these conversions. A notable instance of this was when the Pope himself baptised a Jew in 1566, an event that was commemorated in Rome. However, as the number of Jewish converts remained low, Spain compelled them to adopt Christianity. In response to this pressure from the government, many Jews feigned conversion, leading to the emergence of those known as “Marranos.” [2]
All of this was done for their own benefit, resulting in the dominance of Jews in positions of power, including ministers and rulers, and compelling the Church to respect and elevate their status. A primary reason for the Judaization of Christianity is that both the Torah and the Gospel were, in essence, revealed to the Jews. As Christianity became more Judaized, it became necessary for the Judaized Zionists, who revere both testaments, to align with beliefs that honor and elevate the Jewish people, distinguishing them from other nations. This process of Judaization began in the sixteenth century through the efforts of the Protestants and later evolved with the Puritans. The Protestants were referred to as “Judaized” for two main reasons:
First: Their return to studying the teachings of the Torah and believing in its doctrines.
Second: Their efforts to adapt Jewish beliefs to Christianity, such as the divinity of Christ and the doctrine of the Trinity. The previous section discussed notable advocates of Hebraic Christianity in the seventeenth century, including figures like “Manasseh ben Israel,” “John Locke,” “Isaac Newton,” and others. [3]
From the above, Hebraic Christianity can be defined as: “A form of Christianity that regards Judaism and its teachings as its highest reference.”
One of the most significant pieces of evidence supporting the shared heritage in religious texts between Judaism and Christianity is the reference to their scriptures as a single book, as stated in the Holy Quran. For instance, the Quran mentions: “Say, O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is common between us and you, that we will not worship except Allah” (1). This book refers to the Torah and the Gospel. Additionally, the Quran states: “And confirming what was before it of the Torah and making lawful to you some of what was forbidden to you”. This indicates that the Gospel has abrogated certain aspects of the Torah while retaining others, clearly demonstrating that the Torah serves as a foundational text for Christians. Despite this common ground, there are notable differences and variations in some fundamental religious truths that must be clarified, (for example): The notion of original sin; Catholic Christians believe that humanity is fallen due to original sin, necessitating the Church’s mediation for salvation. Conversely, Jews do not subscribe to the idea of original sin, believing instead that good deeds are the path to salvation, a view also shared by Protestant Christians.
The Christian Right
The Christian Right is considered an extension of “Protestant fundamentalism,” which emerged in the early 20th century. Its influence has steadily grown, becoming a significant force in presidential and congressional elections, particularly in contrast to Jewish voting blocs. As the role of the Christian Right expanded to include Catholics alongside Protestants, the term “Judeo-Christian” has become synonymous with “America,” especially since the United States ousted President George H.W. Bush in 1992. The Christian right is, in essence, a strict political and religious ideology that upholds the inerrancy of the Bible in both its Old and New Testaments, as well as a literal interpretation of its prophecies. This term refers to all Christians who express extreme views and behaviors regarding political, social, domestic, and foreign issues. Consequently, it advocates for Israel and its expansionist policies. [4]
The Renewal
They are also referred to as “born again.” The term “renewal” or “being born again” applies to those who undergo the rite of baptism anew and come to faith in Christ. Among these individuals who are born again is Billy Graham, who shares his personal experience, stating: “There is no life without being born; just as a person enters this world through physical birth, they enter into new life through spiritual birth… I personally experienced this new birth at the age of sixteen, and now, thirty-five years after accepting Christ as my Savior, I still feel the wonder and glory of that experience; it continues to shine brighter year after year”. “Renewal” is a term associated with Judeo-Christian beliefs, as emphasized by Jerry Falwell, who revisited the Bible and demonstrated that the Old Testament serves as the foundational reference for Christians, that the Jews are God’s chosen people, and that the land of “Israel” fulfills sacred prophecies. The Renewed are a group of extreme evangelical Protestant Christians who adhere strictly to the literal interpretation of both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. They particularly focus on the establishment of the state of “Israel” in “Palestine,” believing it to be a fulfillment of God’s promise to His chosen people, according to their claims. [5]
Neoconservatives: The term “neoconservatives” emerged in the 1970s. Consequently, several organizations promoting neoconservative thought were established, including: [6]
The Heritage Foundation
The Origins and Key Beliefs of Zionist Urbanism
Established in 1973, this institution is recognized as one of the most significant educational organizations. Its mission is to advocate for the policies of the Christian right, which emphasize free trade, reduced government intervention in economic activities, the defense of personal liberties, and the enhancement of America’s military strength.
This foundation includes a number of experts in Islamic affairs, who hold antagonistic views towards Arabs and Islam in particular.
The Project for the New American Century
Founded in 1997, this initiative aims to promote the concept of American dominance over the world by exerting control over political decision-making. As part of this project, a report titled “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” was published, which evolved into an action plan for the neoconservative administration regarding foreign policy and defense matters. [7]
Neoconservatives share beliefs with Christian right-wing groups or fundamentalists regarding politics and ideology. They can be characterised as a strict political-religious faction that holds the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, as infallible. They interpret the prophecies within it literally, particularly those concerning “Israel,” the establishment of their state in “Palestine,” the preparation for the Second Coming of Christ, and the reconstruction of Solomon’s Temple. [8]
[1] The term “ghetto” refers to areas in Europe where Jewish communities were concentrated. There is some debate regarding the origin of this word; some suggest it refers to a Jewish quarter, while others believe it is derived from a foundry located near the ghetto. It has been proposed that the term comes from the German word “Ghettor,” meaning a walled place, or from the Hebrew term “Get,” found in the Talmud, which signifies separation or divorce. Additionally, it bears resemblance to the Italian word “borghetto,” which denotes a small section of a city. Within the ghettos in Germany, residents faced significant challenges, including disease and hunger.
[2] The Marranos: These are Jews who outwardly converted from Judaism but secretly maintained their faith while living in Spain. They did this to protect their interests after the fall of Islamic rule. The exact origin of the term is not clearly defined. The Inquisition was established to pursue them and verify their adherence to Christianity. They often migrated to areas where they believed their trade could continue. Refer to: Encyclopedia of Concepts: pp. 348-349.
[3] John Locke was born in 1632 and passed away in 1704. He was an English philosopher known for his liberal ideas. His philosophical summary posits that humans are born with a natural mind, which is then shaped by experiences, forming the basis of human knowledge. He believed that the primary role of the state is to protect human rights rather than infringe upon them. Among his notable works is “An Essay Concerning Human Understanding.”
Isaac Newton was born in 1642 and passed away in 1727. He was an English mathematician and astronomer who served as a parliamentary member representing the University of Cambridge, maintaining his seat until the dissolution of Parliament. In 1696, he became the Master of the Mint, a position he held until his death. Newton is renowned for his discoveries related to sunlight, the law of gravitation, and for founding calculus.

Bush was an American politician who served as the President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. Born in 1924, he was a combat pilot in the Navy during World War II. He held a seat in the House of Representatives, led the Central Intelligence Agency, and was elected Vice President under Ronald Reagan. Allah’s different types of punishment

Quote:
O people! Allāh, The Blessed and Exalted, obligated every Makhluq (Jinn and human) to obey Him and His Messenger in every era and place, and forbade us from disobeying Him and His Messenger. Allāh, The Mighty and Majestic, said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۥ وَلَا تَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ وَأَنتُمۡ تَسۡمَعُونَ
O you who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger, and turn not away from him (i.e. Messenger Muhammad) while you are hearing.
Allāh, The Most High, said:
قُلۡ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَۖ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ
Say (O Muhammad): “Obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad).” But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers.
Allāh, The Most High, said:
Make not the calling of the Messenger (Muhammad) among you as your calling of one another. Allah knows those of you who slip away under shelter (of some excuse without taking the permission to leave, from the Messenger). And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them.” [An-Nur 63]
In these noble verses, Allāh, The Most High, commanded (us) to obey Him and His Messenger, and He made obedience to Him and His Messenger a means to happiness in this life and the next. He forbade (us) from disobeying Him and His Messenger, and He made disobedience to Him and His Messenger a cause of punishment in this worldly life- a punishment that cannot be perceived. Because of this, Allah ended these two verses by mentioning Fitnah, the severity of His Punishment and the painful torment against the one who disobeys Him and His Messenger. Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said about this verse: “Do you know what Al-Fitnah is? Al-Fitnah is Shirk. Perhaps if he (i.e. the person) rejects some of his (i.e. the Prophet’s) saying, something of deviation may enter into his heart, thus, he is destroyed. [Reported by Ibn Battah in Al-Ibaanah Al-Kubraa 97]

Loving Sports Personalities Until It Leads to Major Shirk

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Allah, The Exalted, said:
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ أَندَاداً يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللّهِ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِّلّهِ
And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allah as rivals (to Allah). They love them as they love Allah. But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else)]. [Al-Baqarah. 165]
It is reported that Lionel Messi said that he doesn’t like being called ‘God’ by fans and that he said: “I’m not worried by it, but it’s true that I don’t like it. It’s nice to be praised because people are being respectful. They don’t say it with any ill intent, but actually, with the complete opposite. But I think it’s very exaggerated to call me that.” [End of quote]
Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: The (true) believers love Allah more than the love that the idol worshippers have for the partners they associate with Allah in worship. This is because they (believers) have a pure and sincere love for Allah. As for the polytheists, they associate partners to Allah in worship out of the love they have for their false objects of worship. The believers love The One (Allah) who deserves true love in reality, for true love of Allah is the very thing upon which depends the rectification of a person, his happiness and success. As for the polytheist, they love those who are not worthy of being given any love, rather having love for such things is the very reason behind wretchedness, corruption and loss.
Allah, The Exalted, said:
Or have they taken (for worship) aliha (gods) from the earth who raise the dead? Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then verily both would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. Or have they taken for worship (other) aliha (gods) besides Him? Say: “Bring your proof:” This (the Qur’an) is the Reminder for those with me and the Reminder for those before me. But most of them know not the Truth, so they are averse. And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and no one else).” [Al-Anbiyaa. 21-25]
Allah, The Exalted, stated His disapproval of the polytheists – those who (worship things adopted as)gods in the earth, even though these gods are absolutely incapacitated and powerless. Neither are they are able to bring them back to life nor resurrect them, and this is further explained by the statement of Allah:
وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَةً لاَ يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ ِلأَنفُسِهِمْ ضَرًّا وَلاَ نَفْعًا وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ مَوْتًا وَلاَ حَيَاةً وَلاَ نُشُورًا
Yet they have taken besides Him other aliha (gods) that created nothing but are themselves created, and possess neither hurt nor benefit for themselves, and possess no power (of causing) death, nor (of giving) life, nor of raising the dead. [Al-Furqan. 3]
Allah said:
And they have taken besides Allah aliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). [YaaSin 74-75]
A polytheist worships a created thing that can neither benefit nor harm, and he abandons worshipping Allah sincerely – The One Who is Perfect, and in His Hand is the absolute control over all benefit and harm. This shows that a polytheist is not blessed, his ignorance is clearly established as well as the severity of his unjust behaviour towards Allah, for indeed it is only befitting that there is only one [true] deity, just as there cannot be except one [true] Lord. And because of this, Allah [The Exalted] said:
لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allaah, then verily both [i.e. the heavens and the earth] would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! [Al-Anbiyaa. 22]- Meaning, both the heavens and the earth would have been ruined as well the creation within them. The heavens and the earth – as one can see – are in a perfect state, intact and in perfect order. Neither is there any defect in them and obstacles (to its perfect order) nor conflict in its organisation. Thus, this shows that the One who controls and regulates its affairs is One- its Lord is one and the deity (under whose control they are maintained) is One. If it were the case that the heavens and the earth have two (deities) that control and regulate its affairs- two lords or more, then its perfect order would have been ruined and its foundations would have been undermined. This is because they would have been obstacles and opponents to one another; so if one of them wishes to plan and administer something and the other one wishes that it should not take place, it would be impossible for both their wishes to be fulfilled. The fulfilment of the wishes of one would have shown that the other one is weak and unable do whatever he wants, and it is impossible that both of them will agree on everything. Therefore, the wish of The Irresistible [i.e. Allah- the only True Lord and besides Him every other deity is false]- is what will be fulfilled without anyone being able to prevent or repel it. This is why Allah [The Exalted] said:
مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلاَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
No son (or offspring or children) did Allah beget, nor is there any ilah (god) along with Him; (if there had been many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have tried to overcome others! Glorified be Allah above all that they attribute to Him! [Al-Muminun. 91] [1]
Allah said:
He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night are added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day are added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allah your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmir (the thin membrane over the date-stone). If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad ) like Him Who is the All-Knower (of each and everything). [Al-Fatir. 13-14]
Allah [The Exalted] says:
حُنَفَآءَ لِلَّهِ غَيۡرَ مُشۡرِكِينَ بِهِۦۚ وَمَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا خَرَّ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَخۡطَفُهُ ٱلطَّيۡرُ أَوۡ تَهۡوِى بِهِ ٱلرِّيحُ فِى مَكَانٍ۬ سَحِيقٍ۬
Hunafaa’ Lillah (i.e. to worship none but Allah), not associating partners with Him; and whoever associates partners to Allah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far-off place. [Al-Hajj 31] fall_from_the_sky_snatched_by_birds
Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
If the heart loves Allah and devotes all the religion sincerely to Him, it will not give a share of this love to anyone else, let alone being afflicted with infatuation; but when afflicted with infatuation, this is due to its deficient love of Allah. This is why due to Yusuf’s, peace be upon him, love of Allah and sincerely devoting all the religion to Allah alone, he did not depart from it; rather Allah said:
ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves.
But as for the wife of the Azeez, she and her people were polytheists, and due to this she was afflicted with infatuation. [2]
Those people whose hearts are infatuated with images receive the greatest punishment and the smallest reward. This is because if the heart of the one who is infatuated with images continues to be attached and is enslaved, various types of evils, loss and corruption will be gathered for him, which none besides Allah can enumerate. Even if he is safe from committing a major lewd act, the continuous attachment of the heart to the image without committing a lewd act is a greater than the harm that afflicts a person who commits a sin and then repents, thus the effect of that sin ceases to exist in his heart. The greatest aspect of this calamity is when the heart turns away from Allah. This is because when the heart tastes the worship of Allah and being sincere to Him, there will never be anything sweeter than that- neither tastier and enjoyable nor better. A person does not abandon something beloved to him except due to another beloved thing that is more beloved to him, or due to fearing harm. The heart is turned away from a corrupt love by an upright love or due to fearing harm. Allah, The Exalted said about Yusuf, peace be upon him:
ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. [Yusuf. 24]
Thus, Allah turned His servant away from that which would plunge one into evil due to inclining towards an image and being attached to it, and turns him away from lewd conduct due to his sincerity to Allah. [3]
Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Hearts that are emptied of love for Allah, turned away from Him and seeking remedy from others besides Him, are afflicted with infatuation with images. This is because when the heart is filled with love for Allah and a strong love for meeting Him, this infatuation with images is repelled from it. For this reason, Allah, The Most High, stated about Yusuf, peace be upon him:
كَذَٰلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ السُّوءَ وَالْفَحْشَاءَ ۚ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves.
This shows that sincerity is a means to repelling (evil). Because of this, some of the pious predecessors said: “Infatuation is an agitation in empty hearts”. Meaning: emptied of other than what they crave for. [4]
Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allāh be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, said, “By the One in whose hand my soul is, Shirk is more hidden than the creeping of an ant. Shall I not guide you something that, if you were to do it, would remove it from you – get both minor and major? Say:
O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I associate partners with You while I know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know. [Sahih Adab Al-Mufrad 554]
There is also another hadith reported by Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari, may Allāh be pleased with him, that testifies to the text of this hadith. He said, “One day, Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, gave us a sermon and said, ‘O people! Beware of this Shirk, for indeed it is more hidden than a creeping ant’. Then the one whom Allah wished to speak said to him, ‘O Messenger of Allah! How can we beware of it whilst it is more hidden than a creeping ant?’ He said, ‘Say:
O Allah! We seek refuge in You lest we associate partners with You through something we know and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do not know. [Sahih at-Targhib Wat-Tarhib 36]
This hadith highlights the greatest evil for which an individual seeks protection from Allah, as Shirk is the greatest wrong and the gravest sin.
Allah [The Exalted] said:
وَإِذۡ قَالَ لُقۡمَـٰنُ لِٱبۡنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُ ۥ يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬
And (remember) when Luqman said to his son when he was advising him: “O my son! Join not in worship others with Allah. Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zulm (wrong) indeed. [Luqmaan. 13]
Allah [The Exalted] said:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ أَن يُشۡرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٲلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰٓ إِثۡمًا عَظِيمًا
Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. [An-Nisaa. 48]
Allah [The Exalted] said:
وَمَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلَـٰلاَۢ بَعِيدًا
Whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far away. [An-Nisaa. 116]
The verses of the Qur’an regarding the danger of Shirk and the greatness of its crime are numerous. In the hadith, there is a clarification regarding the fact that Shirk can be hidden in a manner similar to the hidden crawling ant. It may be so hidden that a person commits it and enters into it discreetly without knowing. This shows the great caution one should have regarding it and the obligation of knowing it, so that one is cautious of it and keeps away from it, whilst adhering to the path of Allah path, asking Allah to protect you from all the types of Shirk, from its evil and its disastrous consequences. By (the phenomenon of) time (which Allah manifests through His creation of night and day and in which the servants perform their deeds). Indeed, (all of) mankind is in loss. Except those who believe (in Allāh, His Angels, Books, Prophets, the Last Day and the Divine Decree) and work righteous deeds (which are sincere and correct) and mutually advise each other (in calling to and abiding by) the truth and mutually advise each other with patience (in facing the inevitable harms brought by calling to the truth). https://salafidawah.uk/2023/12/15/the-pinnacle-of-human-perfection-is-attained-through-four-qualities/
The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
I have left you with two matters; you will not go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet. [Al-Muwatta 2/899]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
Indeed, the one who lives long amongst you will see a lot of differences, and beware of newly invented matters (in the religion) because it is misguidance. So whoever amongst you reaches that, upon him to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa, and bite onto it with the molar teeth. [(a)]
Imam Ibn Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
In this hadith is the command that when splitting and differing occurs, adhere to the Sunnah of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the Sunnah of the khulafaa after him. The Sunnah is a path that should be adhered to and it includes that which the rightly guided khulafaa were upon in creed, actions and statements. This is the complete Sunnah”. [(b)]
Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
Whoever wants to follow a path, let him follow the path of one who has passed away, for indeed the living are not safe from trial, and those (who have passed away) are the Companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. They were the most virtuous of this Ummah, the purest in heart, the most profound in knowledge and the least the sophisticated. Allah chose them to accompany His Prophet and to establish His religion, so recognise their status and follow in their footsteps and adhere as much as you can to their manners and conduct, for they were upon upright guidance”. [(c)]
Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:
There is not to be found in the statements of those who came after the pious predecessors (any) truth, except that it is found in their statements with a more concise wording and a shorter expression. There is not to be found in the statements of those who came after them (any) falsehood, except that there is in their statements that which clarifies its falsity for the one who understands and contemplates. There are wonderful meanings found in their statements and precise observations, which those who came after them were neither guided to nor knew about it. The one who does not take knowledge from their statements will miss all that goodness, alongside the many falsehoods he will fall into due to following those who came after them. [(d)]
The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
The devil has despaired of being worshipped in your land (i.e. The Arabian Peninsula); however, he is content to be obeyed in other matters that you may consider trivial in your actions. Therefore, be cautious. I have left with you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet”. [Sahih at-Targhib 40]
Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever ponders upon the state of affairs of the world will find that every affair of rectification is due to Tawhid, singling out Allah in worship and obedience to His Messenger (Muhammad). And every evil in the world, trial, affliction, scarcity (in livelihood), being overpowered by an enemy and other than that is due to (our) opposition to the Messenger and the call to other than (the way of) Allah and His Messenger. Whoever truly ponders upon this and examines the state of affairs of the world- since its beginning and until the time Allah will take it away and those upon it- he will realise this affair regarding himself and others, in general and specific (circumstances). And there is no Might or Power except with Allah –The Most High, The Most Great. [Badaa’i Al-Fawa’id 3/525-526]
Imam Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, may Allah have mercy on him, stated:
“Know, my brother, that death is an honour for every Muslim who meets Allah while adhering to the Sunnah. Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. We turn to Allah to express our sorrow over the loneliness we feel, the departure of our companions, the scarcity of supporters, and the emergence of Bidah. To Allah do we complain about the grave situation that has befallen this Ummah with the passing of scholars and the followers of the Sunnah, and the emergence of Bidah.” [(e)]
Imam Al-Awza’i, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Adhere to the traditions of those who came before you, even if people reject you. Be cautious of the opinions of men, no matter how they may embellish them with persuasive words; for the truth will eventually become clear, and you will remain on the right path. [(f)]
Imam Al-Lalaka’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him said:
Indeed, the most obligated matter to a person is to understand the creed of the religion, and what Allah has imposed on His servants regarding the comprehension of His oneness and attributes, the affirmation of (belief) in His Messengers (and what they have conveyed) through evidence and certainty, and the means to access its paths, using them for proofs and evidences. The mightiest of statements and the clearest evidence is the Book of Allah, the unequivocal truth, followed by the sayings of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his righteous companions, then that which the pious predecessors agreed upon (consensus) and then adherence to all of them until the Day of Judgment, while avoiding Bidah and not lending an ear to it which has been initiated by the misguided ones. These inherited and followed advices, preserved and transmitted narrations (on creed, worship, methodology, manners, dealings etc) established paths of truth, well-known and evident proofs, and compelling arguments that were acted upon by the companions and their successors, as well as by both the distinguished men of piety and their folk among the Muslims, they believed in them as proof between them and Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Furthermore, those who emulate them among the guided Imams and those adherents who followed in their footsteps, striving to follow the path of the pious, are counted among those who are truly righteous and the good doers. Those who embark on such a path and consistently adhere to these proofs in accordance with the path of the Shariah will find security in their religion in both this life and the hereafter, and will hold firmly to the trustworthy handhold -(none has the right to be worshipped except Allah) – that will never break. [(1)]
Imam Al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
I swear by the One (Allah) besides whom there is no deity worthy of worship but Him! The Sunnah is between the extremes of those who are excessive and those who are neglectful. Therefore, be patient upon it (the Sunnah) – may Allah have mercy on you- for the people of the Sunnah were the fewest among the people in the past, and they remained the fewest among those who remained. Neither did they go along with the excessive ones in their excesses nor with the proponents of Bidah in their Bidah, while remaining steadfast in their adherence to the Sunnah until they met their Lord. Thus, if Allah wills, let it be the same for you. [(2)]
Imam Muhammad Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
They (the pious predecessors) held as their belief that the right path is what is based on the authentic narrations of the Prophet and his companions. [(3)]
Imam Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, stated:
Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the leaders who succeeded him (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali) established matters based on the pure revelation; adhering to them is an affirmation of Allah’s Book (the Qur’an), complete obedience to Allah, and strength in the religion ordained by Allah. No one has the authority to alter or change these practices, nor substitute them in opposition. Whoever follows these practices is rightly guided, and he who seeks assistance will be assisted (through them). Whoever opposes them and pursues a path other than that of the believers (the companions of the Prophet), Allah will leave him to what he has chosen and cast him into Hell, and what an evil destination. [(4)]
Imam Az-Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
Those who preceded us among our scholars used to say: “Adhering to the Sunnah is salvation and that knowledge is rapidly taken away. The presence of knowledge is the stability of both the religion and worldly affairs, and with the loss of knowledge follows the loss of all of that (i.e. the emergence of corruption).” [(5)]
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever introduces a bidah in Islam and considers it to be good, he has implied that Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has betrayed his mission. This is because Allah says:[اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم – “This day I have perfected your religion for you]. Therefore, anything that was not part of the religion at that time cannot be considered part of the religion today. [(6)]
Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever becomes acquainted with the path of truth, it has been made easy for him to follow. And there is no proof for adhering to the path of Allah except through emulating the Messenger, peace be upon him, in his conduct, statements, and deeds.” [(7)]
Ibn Ataa, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever commits himself to the etiquettes of the Sunnah, Allah will illuminate their heart with the light of knowledge, and there is no status more noble than following the beloved (Prophet) in His commands, actions, and manners.” [(8)]
Imam Ibn Abi Al-Izz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Acts of worship are to be based on the authentic Sunnah, neither vain desires nor Bidah”. [(9)]
Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever adheres to the Book and the Sunnah, distancing himself from his vain desires and that of others, and turns to Allah with his heart, he is truthful and upon what is correct”. [(10)]
Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Whoever abandons the evidence will stray from the path, and there is no evidence except that which has been brought forth by the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him”. [(11)]
Saudi King Abdul Azeez Bin Abdir-Rahman, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
The foundation of the Islamic Creed is the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and that which the Sahabah were upon; then the pious predecessors after them, and then after them the four Imams of the Muslims- Imam Malik, Imam Shafi’i, Imam Ahmad and Imam Abu Hanifah. The creed of these people is one in the foundation of the religion and that is the three categories of Tawheed- the Oneness of Allah in His Lordship, the Oneness of Allah in that He (alone) has the right to be worshipped and His Oneness in His Names and Attributes”.
It is obligatory that we adhere to the Rope of Allah [i.e. the Qur’an, Sunnah etc] and that which the Salafus Salih [pious predecessors] were upon. If we adhere to this, we will be callers to Allah [i.e. Callers to Tawhid, the Sunnah and everything Allah has commanded], establish our affairs based on what Allah has revealed, speak and establish our economic affairs based on Taqwaa [i.e. fear of Allah by fulfilling everything Allah has commanded and keeping away from everything Allah has forbidden], so that Allah may show us kindness. However, if we do not do so and we are abandoned to our own selves, then we might become like what Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] that Allah said: [نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ – They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them]”. [Al-Anfal. 67]
O Muslims! It is obligatory that we hold onto the Rope of Allah (i.e. the Qur’an), follow the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], follow the guidance of the Messenger, act on Allah’s orders and keep away from what Allah has forbidden. Indeed, every speech that is not followed by action is false. There can be no rectification for the Muslims except through their unity upon singling out their Lord in [His Lordship, Names and Attributes and worshipping Him alone and associate none to Him as a partner in Worship]. And during every differing that leads to splitting and division, the Religion commands us to hold onto Allah’s Shariah, enjoin one another with the truth and patience, just as Allah [The Most High] commanded us in the Qur’an. We should be truly acquainted with our Lord and seek His Aid and Assistance. We do not fear except the (consequences of) our sins and it is obligated on the Muslims to follow Allah’s Religion and obey all that Allah has ordered, practically. In this is the (means of) rectifying their worldly affairs and the upright establishment of all their (other) affairs”.
Deeds that are in opposition to the Shariah can never be beneficial for anyone and all harm (is found) in following other than the foundation brought by our Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him].
Indeed, the progress and advancement of the Muslims is among those affairs we (pursue) – we call to it by the will of Allah. (However), there cannot be advancement for the Muslims without a return to their religion, adherence to their sound creed and holding onto the Rope of Allah (i.e. the Qur’an and the Sunnah). The path towards this is clear and provided for the one who wants to follow it, and that is to single out Allah in worship – to be free from shirk and bidah- and act on that which the religion has commanded us, for indeed there is no benefit in speech if not (accompanied) by action. [(12)]
Saudi Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
The latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except through that which rectified its early part”, just as the people of knowledge and sound faith have stated. This is a statement of Imam Malik [may Allah have mercy upon him]- the well-known scholar of sound understanding and piety. Many other people of knowledge reported this statement during and after his era and they all agreed that the latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except by way of that which rectified its earlier part. This means that the path followed by its earlier generations -the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His noble Messenger – is what will rectify its future generations until the Day of Judgement. The one who wishes to rectify an Islamic society or any other society in this worldly life through other than the path and practical steps that rectified those who have preceded, then such a person is mistaken and has spoken untruth. There is no path other than the path (of the Messenger and his companions). The only path of rectification and uprightness is the one that was followed by our Prophet and his noble companions, and then those who follow them exactly in righteousness till this era of ours. And this necessitates:
-To give close attention to the Great Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger and convey them to the people.
-To acquire understanding of the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah and convey both of them with knowledge and clear-sightedness.
-To clarify the rulings found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, including – first and foremost – the sound creed and the views that must be accepted by the Islamic society. On the other hand, one should clarify the forbidden creeds and views that are to be avoided.
-To clarify the boundaries of Halaal and Haraam that have been legislated by Allah and His Messenger, so that they are not violated. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] said: [تِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهَا – These are the limits (set) by Allah, so approach them not] [Al-Baqarah. 187]
These limits are the unlawful deeds forbidden by Allah because they lead to sins. And just as Allah forbade mankind from going beyond the boundaries of Halaal and Haraam, He also legislated acts of worship and rulings in the religion. [(13)]
Imam Abu Shamah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “When the command to adhere to the Jamaa’ah (the main body) is (mentioned), then the intent behind it is to adhere to the truth, even if those who follow it are few and those who oppose it are numerous. That is because the truth is that which the first Jamaa’ah was upon- the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and his companions [may Allah be pleased with them]- and one does not give consideration to the numerous people of falsehood”. [(14)]
Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Let every Muslim be careful of being deceived by the great numbers [of people upon such and such idea, view, belief, way of life, etc], whilst saying, “Indeed, the people have become such and such, and have become accustomed to such and such, so I am with them”. This is a great calamity, for indeed many people of the past were destroyed due to this [i.e. blindly following the majority]. Therefore, O sensible one! It is obligated on you to examine yourself; take account of yourself and adhere to the truth, even if the people abandon it. Beware of what Allah has forbidden, even if the people do it, for indeed the truth is more worthy of being followed, just as Allah [The Most High] said:
[وَإِنْ تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّه ِ -And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. [Surah Al An’am Ayah 116]
And Allah [The Most High] said: [ وَمَآ أَڪۡثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَوۡ حَرَصۡتَ بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ-And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly]. [Surah Yusuf Ayah 103] [(15)]
Al-Allamah Muqbil Bin Hadi Al-Waadi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
If numbers are the scale by way of which you judge, then the majority are mostly blameworthy; and if persuasive speech and eloquence is the scale by way of which you judge, then indeed Allah described the Munaafiqoon that they have tongues that utter beautiful speech. Allah said: [وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡ – And when they speak, you listen to their words]. [Al-Munaafiqoon. 4]
Therefore, what is given consideration is that one knows the people of truth by their characteristics – that they call to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, and companions], and they neither desire reward from the people nor seeking to be thanked. [(16)]
Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:
A large number of people around a person is not proof that such a person is virtuous because some of the Prophets were only followed by a few people. “A Prophet will come on the day of judgment with a few followers and a Prophet will come with no followers”. [Bukhaari 5705]. Therefore, does this mean that such a Prophet is not virtuous? Absolutely not! A person does not look at the large number of people who are present because the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said to Ali, “If Allah gives guidance to a single man through you, it is better for you than possessing red camels”. [Bukhaari 3009]
The Shaikh, may Allah preserve him, also stated, “Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah is not harmed by those who oppose them. If you are with them- all praise is due to Allah, they are pleased with this because indeed they want good for the people. If you oppose them, you cannot harm them and due to this the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “There will not cease to be a group of my Ummah who will be manifest upon the truth- not harmed by those who forsake them until the command of Allah comes to pass (i.e. the day of judgment) whilst they are (still) upon that (truth)”. The one in opposition does not harm except himself. What is given consideration is not the great numbers; rather what is given consideration is to agree with the truth, even if a small number of people were upon it. And even if in some eras there is only one person (upon truth), then he is the one upon truth and he is the Jamaa’ah. The Jamaa’ah does not necessitate great numbers; rather the Jama’ah is what is in agreement with the truth – in agreement with the Book and the Sunnah, even if those upon it are few. However, if many come together and (upon) truth, then – all praise is due to Allah- this is strength. But if the majority oppose it (i.e. the truth), then we side with the truth even if only a few are upon it”. ([17)]
Al-Allamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Know that the truth is that what (has been revealed by) Allah and (given to) His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him in the Book and the Sunnah, even if its adherents and those who embrace it are few. What is conveyed in the Islamic legislation is the truth one is commanded to follow, even if the majority of the people free themselves from it and those who follow it are few. Allah stated:
Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a plain way of (Our) commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islamic Monotheism)]. So follow you that (Islamic Monotheism and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not. Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.) are Auliya’ (protectors, helpers, etc.) to one another, but Allah is the Wali (Helper, Protector, etc.) of the Muttaqun (pious). [Al-Jaathiya. 18-19]
Therefore, O slave of Allah! Be eager to follow the truth, follow the straight path and the path of early pious predecessors- the companions of the Messenger, and do not feel lonely due to the small numbers of those who follow it and the large numbers of those who oppose it, for indeed Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was an Imaam on his own and with Allah lies all success. [(18a)]
The Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] said, “Allaah will raise for this Ummah at the end of every hundred years the one who will revive its religion for it”. [(18b)]
“Allah will raise for this Ummah”– Meaning the Ummatul Ijaabah [i.e. the Muslims]. “At the end of every hundred years”– Meaning at the end of every hundred years when there is little knowledge of the Sharee’ah and the authentic Prophetic Tradition, whilst ignorance and religious innovation is rife. “One who will revive its religion for it”– Meaning a scholar who is alive and well known. He will clarify the authentic Prophetic Tradition and distinguish it from the religious innovations. knowledge will be abundant again and its adherents will be aided, and the proponents of religious will be overcome and degraded. This reviver is non else but a scholar who has sound understanding of the religious sciences that deal with acts of worship, the underlying wisdoms of the religion and the texts that deal with beliefs of the heart. [(18c)]
We ask Allah:
O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for steadfastness in this affair (regarding sound adherence to the religion) and firm resolve to adhere to the path of guidance. [(19)]
O Allah! Lord of Jibraa’eel, Meekaa’eel, and Israafeel, Creator of the heavens and the Earth, The Knower of the seen and the unseen. You judge between Your slaves regarding in that which they differ. Guide me to the truth regarding that in which there is differing, by Your Will. Verily, You guide whomever you will to the straight path. [(20)]
O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [(22)]
‘O Allah! I ask of you the doing of the good deeds, avoiding the evil deeds, loving the Masakin, and that You forgive me, and have mercy upon me. And when You have willed trial among the people, then cause me to die without being put to trial. And I ask You for Your love, the love of whomever You love, and the love of the deeds that bring one nearer to Your love.’” Allah’s Messenger said: “Indeed it is true, so study it and learn it.” [Sahih at-Tirmidhi 3235] [(23)]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Allah, The Exalted, said:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ ۖ وَإِن تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِن لَّدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
Surely! Allah does not do injustice, even as much as an atom (or a small ant), but if there is any good (done), He doubles it, and gives from Himself a great reward. [An-Nisaa 40]
Allah, The Exalted, informs us of the perfection of His justice and grace, as well as being far removed from everything that is in opposition to this, whether it is minor or major injustice. Allah does not do injustice, even as much as an atom (or a small ant)]. Meaning, He neither diminishes the good deeds of His servant nor increases their sins, as He said (in Surah Az-Zalzalah):
[فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَه – So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it].
“But if there is a good deed done, He doubles it”. Meaning, multiplied up to tenfold or even more, depending on the deed, its benefit, the situation of the doer, their level of sincerity, love for Allah, and the perfection of the deed. “And (He – Allah) gives from Himself a great reward”. Meaning, not only the reward for the deed itself but also guidance towards other good actions and the provision of abundant blessings and goodness. (1)
Anyone who gives up something for Allah’s sake will be given something better in its place
This matter is found in many places in the Qur’an. Allah mentioned it in relation to the first immigrants who left their homes, wealth, and loved ones behind for the sake of Allah, therefore Allah substituted that for them with increased provision, honour, and authority in the worldly life.
When Ibrahim, peace be upon him, disassociated himself from his people, his father, and that which they worshipped other than Allah [i.e. departed after his father threatened to stone him], Allah bestowed on him Ishaq, Yaqub, and righteous offspring. When Sulayman, peace be upon him, was diverted from remembering Allah by his horses, he got rid of them, therefore Allah substituted them.
So, We subjected to him the wind; it blew gently by his order whithersoever he willed. And also the Shayaateen (devils) from the jinn (including) every kind of builder and diver. [Surah Sa’d. 36-37]
When the people of the cave [i.e. the young men mentioned in Surah Al-kahf] separated themselves from their people and what they worshipped other than Allah, Allah bestowed His Mercy on them, facilitated means of success and tranquillity for them, and made them a guide for the misguided.
And (regarding) Maryam [peace be upon her] Allah said:
وَٱلَّتِىٓ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا فَنَفَخۡنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهَا وَٱبۡنَهَآ ءَايَةً۬ لِّلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ
And she who guarded her chastity (virgin Maryam), We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) (through our Ruh Jibraa-eel), and We made her and her son (Eesa) a sign for the Aalameen (mankind and jinn)]. [Al-Anbiya. Ayah 91]
Whoever gives up what their Nafs call them to – the vain desires, Allah will replace it for them with His love, their repentance to Him, and what is better from that which is gathered for them of the pleasures of this life. (2)
Whoever Abandons What is Beneficial Will Be Put to Trial With What Is Harmful
This is found in a number of verses, that when the polytheists shunned the worship of Ar-Rahmaan (Allah), they were put to trial with the worship of images (idols).
When they displayed haughtiness and claimed that the Messengers were (only) humans (i.e. therefore they are not obliged to follow the Messengers), they were put trial with submission to everything that made (their) intellect and religion unstable.
When Iman was clearly shown to them (i.e. the disbelievers) at the first instance and they recognised it, but then turned away from it, Allah – Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections- turned away, afflicted and sealed their hearts. Thus, they did not believe until they perceived the painful punishment.
After the straight path was clarified for them, but they deviated from it by choice and approved the path of deviation in opposition to the path of guidance, they were punished- Allah allowed their hearts to stray (due to their own wrong doing) and became confounded in their path (of misguidance).
When they belittled the signs of Allah and His Messengers, Allah belittled them with a humiliating punishment. When they displayed haughtiness, Allah humiliated them in this life and the next.
When they forbade that Allah’s Name be glorified and mentioned in the Mosques of Allah and strive for their ruin, it was not fitting after that they should enter it except in fear.
And of them are some who made a covenant with Allah (saying): ”If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily give Sadaqah (Zakat and voluntary charity in Allaah’s cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous”. ‘Then when He gave them of His Bounty, they became niggardly [refused to pay the Sadaqah (Zakat or voluntary charity)], and turned away, averse. So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet him, because they broke that (covenant with Allaah) which they had promised to Him and because they used to tell lies”. [at-Tawbah. Aayaat 75-77]
The verses that convey this meaning are numerous and in them is that a servant (of Allah) was close to being guided and made to follow the straight path, but then he abandoned it after being acquainted, or he renounced it after following it, thus he is punished and has no right to guidance. This is a recompense for his actions, as Allah says about the Yahud (i.e. those who knew the truthfulness of Muhammad’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) Messengership, but turned away from it wilfully)]:
And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah (i.e Muhammad) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know! They followed what the (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulayman. [Al-Baqarah. 101-102]
They abandoned the most sublime, the most beneficial and the most truthful of the Books (i.e. the Qur’an), thus Allah put them to trial with following that which is the most debased, most untruthful, and most harmful. Those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger abandon spending their wealth in obedience to Allah, and (instead) spend it in obedience to Shaytan. (3)
Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
Sins breed similar sins, and they give rise to one another, making it difficult for a person to abandon them, as some of the pious predecessors said, “Indeed, one of the punishments for an evil deed is to commit another one after it, and one of the rewards for good deeds is doing a good deed after it. When a servant of Allah does a good deed, another good deed says, “Let me be like that one.” The third one does the same, and so on, leading to an increase in rewards and a multiplication of good deeds, and the same applies to evil deeds, until good deeds and sins becoming essential traits and established habits. If a person who does good neglects obedience, they will feel constricted and uneasy, much like a fish out of water until it returns to its natural environment to find peace. If a sinner turns away from wrongdoing and embraces righteousness, they may feel a sense of inner turmoil, leading them to revert to their old ways. Many wrongdoers engage in sinful acts not out of pleasure or desire, but rather due to the discomfort they experience when trying to abandon those actions. (4)
“Whoever Allah misguides, then none can guide him”.
This occurs based on Allah’s Perfect Wisdom and Just Decree, as recompense for one’s wickedness (a); due to a hidden plot in one’s heart (b); due one turning away from guidance and behaving as if he does not know Allah’s guidance (c); turning away from Allah’s reminder, which he revealed to his Messenger, turning away from understanding it and not pondering upon it, and that which Allah intends by way of it, thus, Allah leaves such a person with his devil as a punishment – the devil that follows him. So, this devil becomes his ally. (d) This because none submits to Allaah sincerely and truthfully, and performs the deeds of the people of Jannah, except that Allah will never abandon him. (e) Such a person (i.e. the misguided one) was not compelled to go astray, instead he made a choice, but his choice is under the Will of Allah. We do not know what was in the hearts of those who deviate, thus, Allah deviated their hearts; but we know – with absolute certainty – that Allah passes Just Judgments and He does not do injustice to anything; rather, it is the people who wrong themselves. (f)
We ask Allah:
O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil.
